cheduled to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in a little under four hours, these are the first official photos of Volkswagen's highly-anticipated Passat four-door Coupe to emerge. Based off the Passat platform and designated the 'CC', the new coupe is a model whose concept is based around that of the Mercedes CLS. Riding 5cm lower than a standard Passat and lengthened by some 3cm, the new CC has a further accentuated sleek design and sporting stance.

Although an official press release is yet to surface, engine options for the CC are to include 160 hp 1.8-litre TSI and 200 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged FSI units, with the range to be topped by a 3.6-litre V6 FSI model producing 300 hp. Power is mated to Volkswagen's seven-speed DSG gearbox, while drive is sent to solely the front wheels or optionally to all.

Further details and our own show stand shots will surface in the coming hours.
